Alarming Increase in Head Trauma Among Children
The number of concussions in youth sports is growing with an estimated 1.1 to 1.9 million occurring annually. No more than 10 percent of these head injuries are reported to emergency rooms, leaving many parents to treat their children at home. Gerald Zavorsky, who is a Georgia State University exercise physiologist and associate professor of respiratory therapy, has examined the use of oxygen chambers in treating adult athletes. He discusses this treatment option as well as the long-term effects of concussions on children in this article published in The Conversation.
